Crosbie Job Insurance Ltd. brings together the commitment of two long-standing, traditional Newfoundland families, the Crosbies and the Jobs. Both families have a legacy of fairness, integrity and astute business practices. History dates the company’s roots as far back as 1851, when the Job Brothers operated as an agent for the Royal Liverpool Insurance Company. Crosbie Job Insurance was purchased in 1984 by James P. Crosbie, adding the Crosbie name to the title. Since January 2000, James Crosbie is the sole shareholder and holds the titles of President and Chief Executive Officer. Working with Jim as Company Directors are Basil Crosbie and Wayne Ralph.

Steeped in History

Both families were fish merchants in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the province’s capital. Their business required fish to be processed and then shipped across the Atlantic to Europe. It was a risky business. The families quickly recognized the needed for marine cargo insurance. Over time, relationships were built with the insurance companies overseas, leading the Crosbies and Jobs to obtain general insurance markets in London. They wrote for companies such as Lloyds, Royal and others, learning the business from the ground up. As the two families became experts in insurance, their portfolios grew. They began to write other types of insurance such as fire and liability, expanding their service offering, but maintaining their strong dedication to serving the province’s traditional industries.

Experience

The Crosbies enjoy a rich heritage in Newfoundland and across Canada. Jim is no exception, retaining the family reputation for hard work and business savvy. Jim Crosbie has worked in the insurance industry since 1959, starting his career in England with Holmwoods, Bach, & Manson (a Lloyds of London Broker). He returned to Canada in 1964 to work with Crosbie, Manson & Mackinnon of Montreal. Gaining experience, Jim soon returned to Newfoundland where he operated the Insurance Division of Crosbie Company, which later became Crosbie Reed Steenhouse, and then Reed Steenhouse.

Growth

Today, Jim Crosbie is at the helm of Crosbie Job Insurance. His innovative thinking, combined with solid knowledge, has seen the company grow in size and scope. Crosbie Job Insurance now offers personal, commercial and marine insurance. As our client, we can create individualized insurance solutions tailored to your specific needs.
